Ok so I installed like 5 different recovery software pgms and none of them recognize that the drive is even there. Maybe trying a different power chord but if its dead its dead. The USB cable is a trifle short but other than that well worth the price. I have a Comstar Platinum one touch GB external hard drive. I’m a big fan of these things — they’re excellent for backups, and for extra storage on laptops.

Also a caveat for those buying empty enclosures — look out for the maximum drive capacity. Its been about years since I bought it, and I have not used it for about a month now, maybe 2 months. My computer did show a message ‘invalid boot.

I checked drive management, something like that, its not there anymore. There are still some around that won’t do more than Gb. My laptop does not read it, nothing pops up on my laptop. I am new in this field and cpmstar Whenever I connected the External Hard drive into my laptop, the LED Lights light up normally, but it does not vibrate normally either.
Anyone want to hold my hand? Widespread Centurylink Outage this morning My IOMagic has a power switch but it really doesn’t matter. I tried googling the external hard drive and the same problems, not a whole luck in my part. Depending on the actual drive inside, you may need an adapter, but if it’s a sata drive, it’ll just connect to the normal sata power and data cables inside the desktop.

Computer powers off in sleep mode Bad news it says windows or xp I am on win98se I’m thinking about it. Since then, the external disk is unreadable. My two caveats with these things are 1 if anything should happen to the power brick, you no longer have a drive — not a good thing if you urgently need to recover a backup and the dog has eaten the proprietary connector on it one reason it’s comforting to have a second oneand 2 you really have to have USB 2.
I do have windows on my other computer can always do folder transfers from icq. When ever I turn computer on does the Comstar box turn on with it, Or there is power botton to it?
External Hard Drive Not Recognized…Cooked?
I’m comfortable with software but for some reason uncomfortable with computer hardware. Fomstar please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums–revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
It used to vibrate and make little noises and it would eventually get warm. I harr a Gb “Kaiser” brand that I knew nothing about except it was on sale cheap at BB many months ago.
Thank you for helping us maintain CNET’s great community. Now, it just sits there with the blue LED lights on, no vibration, and it does not get warm, its just cold. I can’t speak for what’s inside the Comstar but when I ran the serial number of my drive through Seagate’s website it qualified for their full 5-year warranty.
If it does not feel like it spins then the motor on the actual platters shaft burned out or something Anyways I tried to see if they had some troubleshooting software with no luck.
